The famed Nevele Hotel in the Catskills is set to be redeveloped into a resort and casino. The well-known Nevele Grande Hotel and Country Club, a sprawling 500-acre spread in the Catskills Mountains, is expected to undergo a $500 million redevelopment that will transform it into a resort and casino. Nevele Investors LLC, which has purchased the site in the town of Wawarsing and must await government approval for casino gaming, has expressed its intention to preserve a few of the hotel’s classic architectural aspects, including its tower, ice rink and entrance lobby. The investment group additionally plans to reinstate the Nevele’s professional golf course.

The Nevele Grande Hotel ceased its operations in 2009 and the property was in receivership before the purchase by Nevele Investors LLC.
The town boards of Ellenville and Wawarsing have unanimously voted to approve the inclusion of the Ellenville/Wawarsing region in state legislation that allows casino gaming. Ulster County Executive Mike Hein, Ulster County Legislature Chairman Terry L. Bernardo, Wawarsing Town Supervisor Scott Carlsen and Ellenville Mayor Jeff Kaplan have all made it clear that they strongly support the gaming initiative. According to Michael Treanor, the CEO of Nevele Investors LLC, the group will now put its efforts into gathering support from the surrounding community, both at the grassroots level and across Ulster County.

In its heyday, the Nevele was viewed as a premier location within the Catskills vacation business. For more than a century since its opening in 1903, the hotel was famed for its first-class recreational facilities. These encompassed the aforementioned golf course, a ski and toboggan slope, indoor and outdoor pools and tennis courts, , a large outdoor ice rink, an art deco ski chalet with sunken fireplaces, hiking trails, horseback riding stables, and an indoor fitness center. Several buildings on the site contain 450 hotel rooms altogether.

Nevele Investors LLC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Claremont Partners Limited. Larry Woolf, Chairman Emeritus of Claremont Partners, has served as President of Caesar’s in Lake Tahoe, NV and as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. He is the founder and principal of Navegante Group, Inc., a leading full service gaming company.

Very fond 1970's childhood memories with family. A great place then and when completed I hope to return some day. Nice to see a landmark restored..! :-)
