Down With Taxpayer Support of Radicals
Go figure. Colleges, their tuition paying snowflake students and their well paid, tenured professors all combine to actively, vocally and criminally prevent speakers with conservative messages from appearing on campus, but welcome with open arms those who openly call for the destruction of our nation, death to members of our law enforcement community and the destruction of democratic Israel where women and gays are just normal members of the community.
So it was on February 23rd at FAU when that middle-school-level institution welcomed in uber radical, equal opportunity hater of whites, Jews, achievers and of course, America, Angela Davis, to address students and the public as part of Black History Month. Her normal fee runs about 20 or so thousand dollars a pop, so when the taxpayer supported "school" begs for more of our money to throw down the drain, you know what to do.
Here's just a bit of Angela's history that apparently qualifies her to speak to audiences barely able to wipe their own.....noses. Davis was strangely exonerated in 1972 for involvement with the 1970 courtroom slaughter of four, including a judge who was presiding at that time. Her then admitted lover, Jonathan Jackson, smuggled weapons into the San Rafael venue in order to free the defendants on trial at that time. She was implicated (but not enough to convince a jury to convict her), because the guns were, guess what?.... registered in her name and she admitted to being in love with Jackson. He was 17 at that time and she was already a college professor.
She fled the scene, vamoosed to Cuba and was arrested a few years later in NYC after being on the FBI's "10 Most Wanted List" for years. And these are apparently good enough credentials to speak to college kids and the community and get thousands in return. Strangely, no crazed conservative students, fire breathing right wing college professors, Jewish bullies or law enforcement supporting radicals prevented her from preaching cop-hating and anti-American loathing to the dimwits who shelled out big bucks to hear her. According to the article in today's Sun-Sentinel she, "decried violence against women, praised Black Lives Matter and backs Palestine.". And for good measure, "She also went to the women's march and supports feminism."
Let's see: although she has openly supported Radical Islam where women are treated as sex slaves, raped and killed for alleged infidelity or for even refusing sex with their husbands, the audience was loaded with adoring women. And although she is an acknowledged Israel hater and viewed as hostile to American Jews, she is adored by Leftist Jews who marched with her, arm in arm during the recent "women's marches for freedom."
Go figure. I can't.
Social Security & the Cost of Living
California Congress member John Garamendi introduction of House Bill 1251 for CPI-E Act of 2017 makes sense. This bill would require the use of the Consumer Price Index for the Elderly (CPI-E) instead of the current Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) when determining annual cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for Social Security, federal employees retirement annuities and veterans’ benefits.
The current COLA calculation fails to accurately measure seniors spending, especially in the area of health care. In 2016, health care inflation was 4.1 percent, while the CPI-W indicated the average price of consumer goods increased only 0.3 percent. For those over the age of 62, 12 percent of their spending goes toward health care while the general younger population spends just 5 percent.
The fact that we do not use the CPI-E already is disappointing. Instead, cost-of-living adjustments for seniors collecting Social Security and federal civilian or military retirement benefits are based on the costs experienced by urban wage earners and clerical workers. They are not based on the costs experienced by retired individuals. For many, the 2017 COLA of 0.3% amounted to only several dollars.
Why not ask your local Congressmember to join 25 others who have signed up as co-sponsor? Also ask Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand to introduce the same legislation in the Senate?
The Scourge of Anti-Semitism
Allow me to express my appreciation to you for devoting last week's issue of the Jewish Voice to spotlighting the scourge of anti-Semitism that has once again reared its ugly head all across the United States.
The number of bomb threats to Jewish Community Centers and even a Jewish Children;s museum in Brooklyn is beyond reprehensible and terribly frightening. In addition, three Jewish cemeteries have been vandalized and Jews are essentially living their lives while sitting at the edges of their collective seats in the kind of trepidation that we have not witnessed for quite some time.
While an arrest for at least some of the bomb threats was made of a former journalist in St. Louis, it is quite clear that the motivation of this deranged young man was to frame an ex-girlfriend. Something tells me that he is not the culprit behind the other bomb threats or the vandalism of the Jewish cemeteries.
Frankly, I think something very sinister is going on behind the scenes that we have absolutely no clue about. The FBI and other law enforcement have cracked way more difficult cases, yet all we hear is some amorphous statement claiming that these threats are emanating from overseas.
The fact that the investigation into these acts is not being given the kind of gravitas as it should, should alarm us all.
Are the authorities just waiting around for one of these threats to turn into an actual act of deadly terror, leaving unspeakable carnage in its wake?
Perhaps if the authorities cannot solve this matter, it just might behoove Jewish organizations to ban together and form their own version of the Jewish Defense League. The Jew haters around the world should know that Jews will not take these threats lying down.
