The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY) celebrated its 2017 Gala Dinner at The Pierre Hotel. Honorees were John, Margo, Andrea, and John Jr. Catsimatidis, Red Apple Group; Hon. Thomas P. DiNapoli, New York State Comptroller; and Sal Maglietta, Executive Vice President, U.S. Bank.
Awards were presented to these outstanding community leaders. Rabbi Arthur Schneier, Senior Rabbi, Park East Synagogue, presented the Community Legacy Award to John, Margo, Andrea, and John Jr. Catsimatidis in recognition of their devotion to family, faith, community and New York City. Michael S. Miller, Executive Vice President and CEO, JCRC-NY, presented the Public Service Award to NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli in recognition of his dedication to New York State, the community and civic affairs.
Robert J. Joyce, Senior Vice President and Head of Healthcare, U.S. Bank, presented the Community Partner Award to Sal Maglietta in recognition of his commitment to community development and social responsibility. All the honorees expressed their support of JCRC-NY’s commitment to uniting communities.
The Gala was chaired by Charles S. Temel, JCRC-NY President, Marissa J. Shorenstein and Brian M. Cohen, JCRC-NY Development Co-Chairs, and Ambassador Dani Dayan, Consul General of Israel in New York, Eric Goldstein, UJA-Federation of NY CEO, and Jerome Lippman, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Longs Island Jewish World Group of Newspapers, also participated in the program.
Guests included former Cyprus Consul General Philippou, Greek Consul General Konstantinos Koutras, NYC Mayor David Dinkins, NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer, NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Former Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, former NYS Senator Manfred Ohrenstein, CUNY Deputy Vice Chancellor Burt Sacks, CUNY Trustee Rita DiMartino, Kingsborough Community College President Farley Herzek, Queens College President Felix Matos Rodriguez, Rev. Jacques DeGraff, Rev. Michal Faulkner, Paul Massey, RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum, and Korean American Association of Great NY President Minsun Kim.
The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY) is the central coordinating body and resource organization for the Jewish Community in the metropolitan New York area. An active force in New York civic and communal life, JCRC-NY builds bridges and establishes working relationships within the Jewish community, with other ethnic and faith communities, and with public officials and government agencies.
