A one-bedroom duplex condo in the limestone mansion in which the late Joan Rivers held residence in penthouse triplex, is now back on the market for $4.25 million. In 2015, the same apartment was listed for $6 million.

The former residence of the beloved comedian, located at 1 E 62nd Street, is said to have another permanent tenant. The six-story building is supposedly haunted by a ghost that goes by the name “Mrs. Spencer.”

The 1,100-square-foot unit includes 1½ bathrooms and a42-foot-wide edifice designed by architect Horace Trumbauer. Located just off the lobby, the apartment for sale was originally the mansion’s library. It has a gorgeous fireplace, dramatic windows and 14-foot high ceilings. It was also once owned by the celebrity interior designer Geoffrey Bradfield.

Bradfield told Gimme Shelter, “It was fabulous. I’d have big parties in the entrance hall. I’d clear out the furniture and it was like I was welcoming guests to my house.”

In 2001, Bradfield purchased the apartment for $910,000. He then sold it four years later for double what he paid, $1.87 million.

According to The Real Deal, “During that time, the exquisitely decked-out home was featured in publications including Architectural Digest. ‘Joan Rivers was a gracious neighbor and a wonderful woman,’ Bradfield says, adding that he never had any run-ins with the ghost of Mrs. Spencer, who was J.P. Morgan’s niece and the building’s original tenant.”

“I remember some talked about her, but you’d have to hit the bottle pretty hard to encounter the spirit,” Bradfield added.

In 2015, Saudi royal Muhammad bin Fahd bought Rivers’ penthouse triplex for $24 million. Fahd is currently renovating the apartment and has not had any super natural experiences.

Douglas Elliman’s Ivan Hernandez is the listing broker for the single bedroom duplex that just hit the market.
