If a tree falls in a deserted forest and no one hears it, is there no sound? Evidently, right here in NYC, an outright bigot running for a city council seat can blurt out the most racist Jew hating comments in a well populated "forest" containing nearly nine million people and the Jewish shomrim (defenders) apparently do not hear the noise. They willfully continue to ignore his dangerous rants in which he claims that "Jewish landlords are at the forefront of ethnic cleansing/pushing Black/Hispanic tenants out of their apartments." That's dangerous for all of us, whether we live locally or in California. Jew haters thrive on the success of their counterparts. They learn and get moral strength and courage from them.

The name of this anti-Semite is Thomas Lopez-Pierre ,running for office on the Upper West Side and Harlem. This is not his first venom filled political campaign. He has run for this seat before and thankfully was defeated. The problem is that we could not find any rabbi or Jewish organization that has called him to task for his virulent hate speech. For that matter he has also been ignored by all civil rights groups that would have jumped on a white candidate for similar words used to stir up hatred against, let's say, women, blacks, gays, Muslims or any "people of color."

But let's focus on the ADL, the Jewish Community Centers, the rabbis and the Jewish politicos that must number in the hundreds in the city and its outreach communities.  There has been total silence on their part regarding this guy. Why? What causes the Jewish civil rights activists to remain mute when a black racist stands on a soapbox within our communities and ramps up hatred against Jews? We should have learned our lesson from the Rev. Al Sharpton back in 1991 when he provoked the Crown Heights riots that had blacks running wild attacking Jews and left Yankel Rosenbaum, of blessed memory, stabbed to death in the street. Sharpton, at that time was a small time loser but he kindled the riots with words such as, "If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house."

And he called the Crown Heights Jews, "diamond merchants." And he was at the center of the torching of Freddie's Fashion Mart in Harlem owned by a Jew. The Jewish leaders at that time remained silent. How could they condemn a black for being a bigot? That was not possible at that time and still today. And look at his current stature. He was a finalist for the Democrat Presidential nomination in 2004 and during Obama's eight years in office he was a key advisor to the president. Perhaps slimmer but he still remains a dangerous figure to our people because our leaders were fearful of upsetting the black community then.

We have to learn to protect our own when haters appear on the scene. We have to put leaders in power who will not fear to identify and go after these dangers to our people and communities. In short, when the likes of a Sharpton or Lopez-Pierre appears we have to go after them with every available means and that means all out - no holds barred. Make them sweat.
