The new leader of the Manhattan GOP may be Andrea Catsimatidis, the daughter of billionaire talk show host, businessman, and former Republican mayoral candidate John Catsimatidis. According to a Crain’s New York report this week, Andrea Catsimatidis is hoping to replace Adele Malpass, the outgoing Chairwoman of the Manhattan GOP. Malpass is leaving her post and relocating to Washington with her husband David Malpass, who was recently confirmed as the Treasury Department’s undersecretary for international affairs.

“She’s always been involved in politics,” John Catsimatidis told Crain’s New York, according to the new site. “All the stuff I did for governors and senators and presidents in my life. I think she’s very qualified, she’s out there running.” Catsimatidis is the owner and CEO of Manhattan grocery chain Gristedes Foods (the city’s largest), and is the owner and CEO of real estate aviation company the Red Apple Group.

GOP hopeful Andrea Catsimidatis separated from her husband, Chris Cox, in 2014. Cox had a deep political lineage as the grandson of Richard Nixon, and the son of Ed Cox, the Republican Party chairman of the New York State GOP. As Crain’s New York noted, Adele Malpass was appointed by the elder Cox in 2014 to serve as head of the Manhattan GOP, replacing outgoing chair Dan Isaacs.

Catisimatidis official site,, appears to present a case for its young subject’s leadership qualifications. The site notes that Catsimatidis is currently an executive at her father’s Red Apple Group, working primarily in the Real Estate, Investment, and Insurance divisions. She is also a graduate of New York University’s Stern School of Business, and during her time as a student was named one of NYU’s 15 most influential students for the leadership skills she demonstrated as president of the NYU College Republicans.

The site notes that Catsimatidis also serves on the board of the DoughMain Education Foundation, which promotes children’s financial literacy, and is involved with organizations such as the Police Athletic League and the Alzheimer’s Association.
