"Will The True Progressives Please Stand Up"

Dear Editor:

The newly launched Zioness Movement’s' purpose is to be included in liberal rallies as proud Jews who support Israel. While I was initially a supporter of this concept, Zioness' recent attendance at a rally whose speaker, Sarsour made yet more anti Israel comments, who is a leader of the hateful Boycott, Divest & Sanction/Destruction of Israel, is not progressive. It is morally bankrupt and sends a message of support to Sarsour who openly says you cannot be a feminist if you support Israel. Her rallies should be boycotted by all, not attended.

"Linda Sarsour Spews Anti-Semitism at Social Justice Rally" ...With groups in attendance such as Zioness, which has a feminist-Zionist platform, Sarsour called for anti-Israel indoctrination by and for Jews. In remarks that Zionist attendees said they believed were directed toward them, Sarsour said she “didn’t feel safe” by elements in the crowd." “If your approach is to shove your issue down our throats and center you then this not the movement for you. If your approach is to tell me there you have conditions to your participation, we don’t want you in the movement,” continued Sarsour.  Sarah Friedson, a hip hop instructor and long time pro-Israel advocate, said Sarsour is “the biggest hypocrite of them all.”

Sarsour and other organizers of the Women's March regularly attend rallies supporting Farrakhan. The organizers who do not attend, are silent about their colleagues support of this known, genocidal Jew hater, Farrakhan. Silence is always complicity. This alone is a reason for liberal Jews and Jewish groups to denounce these fake progressives who use their doublespeak to hoodwink others into believing they truly are progressive liberals. They are not. They are the opposite. Sarsour and her co-organizer's words and actions should speaker louder than their doublespeak but apparently, not for some.

I call upon all to withdraw their support for Zioness and for Zioness to disband and find another way to be loud, proud Jews who support Israel.

Honoring Restaurant Wait Staff

Dear Editor:

In these difficult economic times, it is especially important to patronize your favorite restaurants and honor the employees who make them a success.  Why not join me in celebrating National Waiter and Waitress Day on May 21st?  There are several ways to say thank you.  Let your server(s), cooks and owners know how much you appreciate the excellent food and service.

On this day, don’t forget your cook and server.  We try to tip 20 percent against the total bill including taxes. If it is an odd amount, round up to the next dollar.  Why not leave a 25% tip on this day? If you can afford to eat out, you can afford an extra dollar tip. When ordering take out, don’t forget to leave a dollar or two for the waiter or cook. Trust us, it is appreciated.

Remember the people who work at your favorite restaurant are our neighbors. They work long hours for little pay and count on tips, which make up a significant portion of their income.  If we don’t patronize our local restaurants, they don’t eat either. Your purchases keep our neighbors employed and the local economy growing.

Why not drop off a box of candy, cookies or some other treat for your favorite waiter or restaurant staff on this day as well? Leave them a thank you card or note along with a larger than normal tip.

Looking for ‘Motivation’?

Dear Editor:

Check out the motivation of those CongressPerps who instantly knee-jerk react with calls for ‘more gun control legislation’ as the answer to every shooting incident.  They are so predictable.

Do they really believe that the ‘crazies’ who are somehow motivated by whatever their distorted perceptions to kill as many people as they can, give the slightest thought to the laws they flaunt?  Are these CongressPerps so dense and so stupid that they honestly believe the misguided myth that more anti-gun laws will have any deterrent effect?

Or, are they totally motivated by concerns about their own political careers when they calculate that jumping up & down and screaming for more anti-gun laws will impress their voting constituents that they are actually doing something that will help the situation?  In other words, are they in deed and in fact, hypocritical phonies?  The answer is a resounding, YES!

Is the Political System “Broken”?

Dear Editor:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

 (Albert Einstein)

A year ago if I would of asked of you ‘how are things doing’ you would said the system is broken. Two years ago the reply would have been the system is broken. Three years ago..

In a year from now it will be the same in all likelihood. Unless we get up, get out ,and do what needs to be done. We all want our town to be greater. It should be greater.

 Elections are here again.

Many of you are jaded? If we vote for a superior slate, now that we've been given the chance, it will soon be a mum oiver. Many are numb? Like Bnei Yisroel in Mitzra'im when Moshe came?

Wake Up! Or we'll miss our opportunity!

The oligarchs who control the  town tell us continuously how wonderful the public is, but when it comes to speaking to Trenton on behalf of the BOE or any other , their invariable excuse for our problems  is that the system is broken. They never say that to the voters however. Because? They wish to stay in office. They turn around and instantaneously give us their cheery smile and speak  about sunshine.

We expect more from Lakewood We ought to. In our hearts we feel it ought to be so much grander. And it could be.

Every positive change will demand taking  a sort of leap of faith, whether personal , communal or electoral. It will require going beyond the lethargy we’ve  gotten used to, our default comfort zone. Go ask any therapist, mashgiach or statesman.

This is how all progress comes if it is to come ..

 May we merit together through our collective activism the fulfillment of Michah 4:4 וְיָשְׁב֗וּ אִ֣ישׁ תַּ֧חַת גַּפְנֹ֛ו וְתַ֥חַת תְּאֵנָתֹ֖ו וְאֵ֣ין מַחֲרִ֑יד
