Adam Levine has announced his engagement to Victoria Secret model Behati PrinslooMaroon 5 front man Adam Levine recently became engaged to model Behati Prinsloo.  The pair celebrated at the New York City eatery Peels on July 16 with champagne and burgers.

Levine, 34, was known for dating a string of attractive women over the years, making the engagement a bit of a surprise.  Levine presented Prinsloo, 24, with a vintage ring featuring an oval diamond in a raised setting on a thin, dark silver band.  According to Prinsloo, Levine proposed on “one-knee. It was serious, it was very old school.”

The couple, who started dating last year, broke up several months ago but recently reconciled.  During their separation, Levine was seen getting cozy with Sports Illustrated model Nina Agdal.

Levine seemed noncommittal on the subject of marriage in the past.  Last year, in an interview with Paper Mag, he said, “I’m extremely fascinated by marriage. I want to study marriage. I want to learn about it. I want to know it. I want to figure out whether or not I want to do it. I'm not just going to leap into it, because that’s not good for anybody.”

Talking this past May to Oprah Winfrey, Levine seemed to warm to the idea of marriage.  “I'm a fan of marriage,” he said. “People think that I keep pooh poohing marriage, and I love it and I want to probably be married at some point… I don't feel pressured to get married. I think a lot of people put pressure on themselves to get married and I think that when it's time, it's going to be obvious, and I’m going to do it, and I'm going to really enjoy it. I love kids, I love the idea of having a wife.”

Levine was born in Los Angeles to a Jewish family.  He gained fame with Maroon 5, the pop rock group that originally formed in 1994 as Kara’s Flowers while he and his fellow band members were still attending high school. With a lineup of Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden, and Ryan Dusick, they signed to Reprise Records and released an album, “The Fourth World,”in 1997. After a lukewarm response to the album, the band parted with their record label and attended college. In 2001, the band regrouped and added James Valentine to the lineup, and pursued a new direction under the name Maroon 5.
