A Sephardic Woman’s Ancestral Journey in Flamenco Dance

E-mail Print PDF
Saturday, February 25, at 8:00 PM
Venue: 92nd Street Y
1395 Lexington Ave, Manhattan

This original flamenco performance depicts the personal and ancestral journey of a Sephardic woman from her family’s expulsion from Spain, to their life in Persia, to her return to Spain to develop her art as a flamenco dancer. Created and performed by acclaimed flamenco dancer Leilah Broukhim, this highly personal work is an intimate expression of Broukhim’s roots, her personal journey and the history of her people. Accompanied by Sephardic, Ladino and Persian music performed by a Spanish ensemble, the show is a moving and unforgettable work of music, dance and art, which reminds us that the traces of our past define our present and our future. This is the U.S. premiere of the full production, parts of which were previewed last year at 92Y as a work in progress. Tickets from $35.
