For the second consecutive year, The City College of New York is included in The Princeton Review ‘Best Colleges’ guidebook.studentsThe Princeton Review once again lists the City College of New York among the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education. The education services company features the school in the new 2014 edition of its annual college guide, “The Best 378 Colleges,” which went on sale August 6.

This is the second consecutive year City College is included in the Princeton Review Guide. Earlier this year, Princeton Review also cited City College as a “Best Value” college. The Princeton Review “Best Colleges” guide listing comes two weeks after Forbes ranked CCNY first among New York State public colleges and universities and 137th overall in its annual America’s Top Colleges list.

“We are thrilled to once again be included in the Princeton Review ‘Best Colleges’ guide,” said CCNY President Lisa S. Coico. “Thanks to the dedication of our faculty, the diversity of our student body and one of the most affordable tuitions around, we are an institution where those with the drive to succeed not only get an excellent education but also leave prepared to make their mark in the world.”

Only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges are covered in the book, which is The Princeton Review’s flagship college guide. It includes detailed profiles of the colleges with rating scores for all schools in eight categories, plus ranking lists of top 20 schools in the book in 62 categories based on The Princeton Review’s surveys of 126,000 students attending the colleges.

“City College offers outstanding academics, which is the primary criteria for our choice of schools for the book,” says Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior vice president / publisher and author of “The Best 378 Colleges.”

“We base our selections primarily on data we obtain in our annual institutional data surveys. We also take into account input we get from our staff, our 35-member National College Counselor Advisory Board, our personal visits to schools, and the wide range of feedback we get from our surveys of students attending these schools.”

In its profile on City College, The Princeton Review praises CCNY for its affordability and quality of its academic offerings. It notes recent investments in science and medical education, and points out that CCNY is the only public college in New York City to offer engineering degrees. Students who participated in the survey gave kudos for the College’s teaching excellence. “My professors devote time and effort to making sure students understand the material being taught,” said one respondent.

The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges academically or from 1 to 378 in any category. Instead it reports in the book 62 ranking lists of top 20 colleges in various categories.

The Princeton Review is an education services company known for its test-prep courses, tutoring, books, and other student resources. Headquartered in Framingham, Mass., the company is not affiliated with Princeton University.
