Shlomo Ettlinger has been charged with two counts of felony drug possession, one for second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, and the second for fourth-degree possession of a controlled substance. An indictment has been handed down against a 37-year-old rabbi who was arrested on drug and weapons charges in March after a police raid on his home in Monsey, NY.

The Journal News is reporting that, according to Rockland County DA Thomas Zugibe, Shlomo Ettlinger, of 61 Blauvelt Road, has been charged with two counts of felony drug possession, one for second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, and the second for fourth-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Ettlinger is also charged with one misdemeanor count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.  He was arrested back on March 21 during a police raid on his home which ended a two-month-long investigation, initiated through tips of suspicious behavior from neighbors.

During the raid police found over a pound of marijuana and 370 grams of hash oil, as well as unregistered hand gun, ammunition, and $2,000 in cash.

A petition letter dated May 29 urged that Ettlinger be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The letter reads: “We urge that Rabbi Ettlinger be prosecuted to the fullest extent afforded by the law and demanded by public safety. He has endangered the emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual wellbeing of our youngsters and is a threat to our communities.

“He must be punished severely, not only for the past, but for the future; his prison sentence must serve as an effective deterrent to protect our communities from criminals who harm others for their own selfish gain.”
