Germany's foreign minister said on Tuesday he would try to avoid damaging already strained relations with NATO partner Turkey during a withdrawal of German troops, as he didn't want a mounting dispute to push Ankara into closer ties with Moscow.

Sigmar Gabriel said his officials would do their best not to escalate the situation as German troops left the Incirlik air base in southern Turkey - in reaction to Ankara's decision to restrict German lawmakers' access to the soldiers.

"Above all we should organize the withdrawal so that there is no megaphone diplomacy where we trade insults," Gabriel told Deutschlandfunk radio.

Britain has arrested a "large part" of the network behind the suicide bomb attack in Manchester, police said last week, according to AFP.

The European Jewish Congress (EJC) sent a letter to all Members of the European Parliament calling on them to support the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of anti-Semitism for the European Union at a vote which will take place on June 1st.
