Annual march through capital to the Western Wall draws tens of thousands of celebrants on the 50th anniversary of reunification of Jerusalem

Tens of thousands of people participated in the traditional March of the Flags from Jerusalem's Great Synagogue to the Western Wall Wednesday evening. At the close of the event, estimates rose to 100,000 participants, most of them young adults

The march began with singing and dancing on King George St. in the city center.

Police blocked off the roads along the route of the march towards the Old City of Jerusalem.

Arabs and left-wing activists demonstrated against the celebration near the Damascus Gate. Police and security forces stood between the marchers and the protesters.

To mark Jerusalem Day and the 50th anniversary of the reunification of the city, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) and the Nature and Parks Authority unveiled 2,000-year-old evidence on Thursday of the battle for Jerusalem on the eve of the destruction of the Second Temple.
